SBI PO Selection Process
The selection pathway for the 2025 SBI Probationary Officer role is a multi-stage process involving three key phases: an initial Preliminary Exam, a more intensive Main Exam, and a final round that includes a Psychometric Test, Group Exercise, and an Interview. Each step is carefully structured to evaluate a candidate's abilities.
Phase I, the Preliminary Exam, serves as the initial screening. This online test is worth 100 marks and is divided into three parts: English, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning. Each section is timed for 20 minutes, for a total exam duration of one hour. A merit list is created based on these scores, with the top candidates (approximately 10 times the vacancy count) advancing to the next stage.
Phase II is the Main Examination, which has two components: a 200-mark Objective Test and a 50-mark Descriptive Test. The Objective portion covers Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, Data Analysis, General/Banking Awareness, and English. The Descriptive portion, which follows immediately, requires candidates to type their answers on the computer. The total time for the Main Exam is 3.5 hours.
The examination framework for both stages is outlined in the table below:
| Examination | Section | Questions | Marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Preliminary | English Language | 30 | 30 | 20 minutes |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 35 | 35 | 20 minutes | |
| Reasoning Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 minutes | |
| Main (Objective) | Reasoning & Computer Aptitude | 40 | 60 | 50 minutes |
| Data Analysis & Interpretation | 30 | 60 | 45 minutes | |
| General Awareness/Economy/Banking Knowledge | 60 | 60 | 45 minutes | |
| English Language | 40 | 20 | 40 minutes | |
| Main (Descriptive) | Communication Skills (Emails, Situation Analysis, Report/Precis) | 3 | 50 | 30 minutes |
Candidates who clear the Main Exam proceed to Phase III, which includes a Psychometric Test, Group Exercise (20 marks), and a Personal Interview (30 marks). This final stage has a total weightage of 50 marks and assesses personality and interpersonal skills.
The final selection is determined by combining scores from the Main Exam and Phase III, with a 75:25 weightage respectively. The marks from the Preliminary Exam are only for qualification and do not count towards the final merit list.
Please note, a penalty for wrong answers (1/4th mark deduction) applies to both the Preliminary and Main objective tests. All results will be published on the official SBI portal to maintain a fair and transparent selection procedure.
