Eligibility Criteria 

Age Limits (Crucial for Application) 

Candidates must meet the age requirements set by UPSC:

 

  • Minimum Age: 15 years 
  • Maximum Age: 18 years 

Born not earlier than 2nd January 2007 and not later than 1st January 2010.(alert-success)

 

Educational Qualification 

The educational requirements differ slightly based on the wing you applied for:

 

  • Army Wing of NDA: Must have passed 12th Class (10+2 pattern) or equivalent from a State Education Board or University. 
  • Air Force, Naval Wings of NDA, & 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme (NA): Must have passed 12th Class with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) of the 10+2 pattern or equivalent.

Selection Process & Exam Pattern 

The Three-Stage Selection Process 

Your path to the Academy includes two major phases, each carrying equal weight:

 

  1. Written Examination: Objective-type papers in Mathematics and General Ability Test (900 Marks) 
  2. SSB Test / Interview: Personality, intelligence, and psychological testing, including a personal interview. (900 Marks)

Common Questions About the NDA Exam (FAQs) 

I cleared the written exam. What is the next step? 

Congratulations! The next step is the SSB (Services Selection Board) Test/Interview, which also carries 900 marks. You will be contacted by the relevant services for further instructions and call letters for the SSB stage.

 

Is there negative marking in the NDA Written Exam? 

Yes, there is negative marking. The official rules state that points will be deducted for incorrect answers, so precision is essential during the exam.

 

Do I need to have a science background to apply for the Army wing? 

No. For the Army Wing of the NDA, candidates only need to have passed 12th Class (10+2 pattern) in any stream. However, for the Naval and Air Force wings, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) are required.

 

How are the final marks calculated? 

The final merit list is based on the candidate's combined score from the Written Examination (900 Marks) and the SSB Test/Interview (900 Marks), totaling 1800 marks.
